Caring for Mothers and Babies in the Developing World

MaterCare is an international organization of health professionals dedicated to the care of mothers and babies, both born and unborn, through new initiatives of service, training, research and education, which are designed to reduce the unacceptably high rates of maternal mortality, morbidity and abortion. Matercare’s mission is to serve the Culture of Life where it is most at risk – those crisis areas and hotspots where mothers and their children, born and unborn, are neglected or abandoned outright.

MaterCare – Objectives

MaterCare Australia is a non-profit organisation affiliated with MaterCare International with the following objectives:

• To provide medical care based on the highest medical and moral standards to mothers and infants before and after birth, wherever there is need throughout the world focussing particularly on areas where maternal and infant mortality and morbidity is high.
• To act as a prophetic witness by reflecting on the teaching and practice of contemporary maternal health care in the light of the Gospel and its values most recently presented in the Encyclical, Evangelium Vitae.
• To promote the fullness of human life, including unborn life, through Christian principles that affirm the sanctity of human life and the dignity of the person, with the focus on the family as the chief guardian of life and health.
